She Changed Her Thoughts – and Walked Into a New Reality
“This is a new day – it’s a new chance for a new step.”
When Ula woke up paralyzed without apparent cause, she felt trapped in her body. Unable to walk or move, she needed to be fed, washed, and cared for by others – and doctors said it could take up to two years before she was back on her feet. But when a nurse told her about Dr Joe’s work, Ula committed to practicing every day.
Ula soon realized that during the beginning of her illness, she often thought about her dependence on other people’s help and opinions. With this new awareness, she decided to choose new thoughts and act differently.
After imagining herself walking, jumping, and eating on her own, Ula decided she would leave the hospital – and she did, only four months after diagnosis. She’s now able to walk and care for herself and views each day as a new chance to step into the unknown.
